The third edition of the Sustainable Places conference (SP2015) took place on September 16-18, 2015 at the University Campus of Savona, Italy. Sustainable Places 2015 (SP2015) received support from the European Commission (EC), BUILDUP, ECTP–E2BA, EIP-SCC (Eu-smartcities), EUbusiness, and Ideal-ist. SP2015 gathered institutional, researchers, and engineers, to question energy efficiency at building, district and city levels. Once again, the SP conference proved to be a fantastic opportunity for networking and clustering among projects funded in the framework of the FP7 and H2020 EeB PPP. Participants had the chance to assess innovative initiatives, access up-to-date information, discuss market trends, and envision possible synergies.

Additionally, SP2015 offered delegates a two-hour guided tour of the Savona smart Campus, which hosts a Smart Polygeneration Microgrid (SPM), enabling testing and demonstrations of different control algorithms and to simulate an energy market concept in real conditions.
3 key components of the SPM were presented during the visit:
- The SPM controller: the “brain” of the SPM, hosting the servers that operate the supervision of the electric and of the thermal/mechanical grids
- The SPM generator: serving the University campus energy needs, in terms of power, heating and cooling demands.
- The “Energy Hub”: emulating electrical and thermal loads and including different prime mover technologies
