Introduction:

Information visualization supports human activities through the adoption of visual data representations and interaction techniques [iV2018], and it is rapidly becoming the inevitable backbone of energy efficiency within all walks of life. During the process of electrification in modern societies, embedded systems and simulation have become critical technology enablers.

The “internet of everything” is a term that refers to the importance of data management when it comes to the monitoring and control of social or tangible objects that make up smart cities. With many industries becoming more decentralized, blockchain is one example of how algorithms can positively affect socioeconomics and technological advancements. The intrinsic security and aptitude for supporting a distributed computing system with high Byzantine fault tolerance are incredibly necessary for dealing with issues related to the built environment efficiently and effectively. With automated buildings, digital asset management, and self-healing platforms becoming more readily available, the secure transaction infrastructure for the next generations of trading or ledger systems are clearly foreseeable and are the driving force in emerging technological objects within every smart city.

These smart objects will also be context-aware and able to perform certain functions autonomously, calling for new forms of green communication between people and things and between things themselves, where power consumption is optimized and bandwidth utilization is maximized [Hindawi]. Artificial intelligence (AI) and green ambient intelligence are clearly changing the world in a wide range of areas such as heterogeneous or ubiquitous networks, probabilistic graph models, complex systems (of systems), reinforcement/machine/deep learning, anomaly/fault detection, and human-computer interaction within cyber-physical systems, just to name a few.

Multi-criteria decision support systems are utilized for problem exploration and structuring, to discovering preferences and negotiating solutions (e.g. Multi-Agent Systems). Automation and decision-support tools are bridging the divide between equipment and operations.
