New European Bauhaus: from principles to reality - Lessons learnt on what works, what doesn’t, and why

The New European Bauhaus (NEB) envisions to re-think our living spaces, so they become more sustainable, beautiful and inclusive. It develops an approach at the crossroads of disciplines (art, science, engineering), aiming at citizen’s and communities’ empowerment. In less than five years, the New European Bauhaus has gained momentum in the European research community. But how are we implementing the NEB values is practice? This session proposes to discuss with participants how some R&D projects have embodied the NEB values in their practice, exemplified by a selection of tools and approaches. The idea is to exchange on practical values exemplified by a selection of tools and approaches. Participants will discuss what has worked so far, what has not, why, and how we could improve. The approaches and tools to be presented and discussed cover various topics, from urban planning to energy communities, from material science to indoor air quality monitoring:
- The MUST participatory design tool for urban planning, and its adaptation to meet specific needs of neighbourhoods’ regeneration
- REGEN project – City Intelligences Lab as digital, participatory urban planning tool for re-designing public spaces
- drOp project – Co-Creating the NEB Future: materials, practices, and skills for a sustainable and inclusive built environment
- INGUMA, WoodStock, NEB Academy projects – How urban mining and reuse strategies were integrated in the design and construction of facade renovation system
- AEGIR project – A digital solution to help citizens adopt energy community model
- TIMEBERHAUS project – Strategy games for the co-creation of decarbonisation strategies for buildings’
- GINNGER project – Visualisation Tools to Empower Professionals and Communities for Indoor Air Quality Understanding (IAQ Society)
This interactive working session is organized by the Star Track and NEB Junction Coordination and Support Actions, who will use the workshop’s outcomes in their activities towards: developing the New European Bauhaus hub for results and impact, and helping local ecosystems of the construction sector integrating the NEB values in their innovation processes.
