Publication Outcomes: Open Research Europe (ORE)
Sustainable Places partnered with Open Research Europe (ORE), the open access publishing platform for the publication of research stemming from Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe funding across all subject areas. ORE facilitated compliance with open access terms for Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe beneficiaries and offered researchers a publishing venue to share their results and insights rapidly.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainable and local providers: catering and gifts
In 2023, we went one step beyond in terms of sustainability. For the lunches and coffee breaks, we chose a local and zero-waste catering service that recycled in all their events. Furthermore, they used zero plastic, having eliminated household items and plastic bottles. Additionally, 70% of the menu was suitable for vegetarians!
For the gift providers, we chose a sustainable and local business with an innovative product for the paper industry: plantable seed paper. Apart from the plantable notebook and pencil, the bag provided was ecological and made out of jute with cotton handles.
Sustainable Places 2023 tree pledge
The Sustainable Places 2023 Organising Committee, through LifeTerra, adopted the first 1,000 trees to help offset the impact of the organisation and associated travels of the conference. Each of the registrants at the event contributed to planting trees in La Junquera, Murcia, Spain, as a percentage of the tickets went directly towards this project.
Participants also had the opportunity to help adopt more Junquera trees to support this project and other restoration projects throughout Europe, contributing to a greener world.
